Not only are they the hottest teen stars in the world, they're also the perfect Hollywood couple. With High School Musical 3: Senior Year coming to Sky Movies Premiere/HD on Saturday 24th October at 8pm, Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron take fame, friends and life at East High.
After the unprecedented success of the first two High School Musical films and the worldwide phenomenon that followed, the third trip to East High sees the talented teens preparing to go their separate ways.
“Our characters have grown up a lot,” says Hudgens. “You see them make decisions that kids don’t make. But it’s good they’re growing up – the fans of the movie are too.” “This time it’s our senior year, and we finally graduate,” explains Efron. “It was really sad – but we have prom and we all try to figure out what to do with the future; with college, jobs and, of course, Gabriella’s relationship with Troy.”
Although they’ve grown up together both on and off screen, the couple are notoriously private about their relationship, but Hudgens assures us everything is hunky dory. “He always makes me happy,” she confirms. “He literally knows exactly what to do to make me laugh.”
The end of the franchise will mean a change for the couple, but with Hudgens recently starring in teen comedy Bandslam and Efron in 17 Again chances are they won’t be stepping out of the spotlight soon.
“It’s just something that comes with the territory,” says Hudgens of all the media attention. “I’m going to live my life and enjoy doing it because you only get one shot. I want to be a good role model, but I’m still me.”
Will they miss the Disney Channel franchise that catapulted them to fame? “It’s been a very safe, creative place for us to work,” says Efron. “It’s pretty hard leaving that behind.”
