The movie that made Arnold a star - The Terminator came out in a year of classics (Ghostbusters, Footloose, Splash and Indiana Jones all hit theatres that year) but was still the best of the lot.

The original's plot was beautiful in its simplicity - unstoppable force hunts innocent woman - yet rich in story - a killer robot from the future is sent back in time to murder the woman destined to give birth to the leader of the human resistance.

Without the resources to make the film Cameron had envisioned (he later said T2 was much closer to his ideas), he still managed to make the most of the cutting edge effects available at the time, most notably Stan Winston's effects shop.
