Harry:"I can't be a wizard. I'm just Harry, just Harry."
Raised by Muggles (non-wizards) the 11-year-old orphan we first meet has only vague recollections of his parents, who were killed by the racially-obsessed Voldermort. Carrying a reminder of that fateful day - a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead - Harry enrols at Hogwarts, a boarding school devoted to witchcraft and wizardry. There he meets his lifelong pals and allies Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. However, the evil Lord Voldermort is always waiting in the wings, determined to complete unfinished business with the uniquely gifted teenager.
The Actor: Producer David Heyman's decision to give the role to the untested Radcliffe was backed by HP writer J.K. Rowling. He would go on to grow up with the role, making the transition from child to adult star. Outside HP he starred on stage in Peter Shaffer's Equus and sent himself up in Ricky Gervais' Extras.
