Director John McTiernan first put Bruce Willis in a vest for 1988's Die Hard, the movie that reinvigorated the action genre and created a whole new sub genre - The 'Die Hard On A' genre. As in, Die Hard On A Boat (Under Siege), Die Hard In A Stadium (Sudden Death), Die Hard On A Plane (Passenger 57).
The first sequel, directed by Renny Harlin, did big business, but didn't find the acclaim of the original. The third movie, Die Hard With A Vengeance, saw the return of McTiernan, as well as a return to form.
2007's Die Hard 4.0, deftly directed by Len Wiseman, did exactly what it said in the tin, and made a mint in the process. Die Hard 5 is all but inevitable...
