The horrors of a Nazi concentration camp (Auschwitz) are seen through the innocent eyes of Bruno (Asa Butterfield), the eight-year-old son of the Kommandant. As the atrocities accelerate, he begins a forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy - Schmuel (Jack Scanlon) - on the other side of the camp fence which has startling and unexpected consequences.
