Twilight: New Moon abs machine Taylor Lautner has nabbed his first major solo leading role.
The tween favourite is set to play Stretch Armstrong in an adaptation of the popular 90s toy.
Appropriately enough, little has been said about the production except for the inevitable announcement that the film will be filmed in exciteably elongated 3D.
Universal Studios have set a tentative release date of 2012, allowing Lautner to complete work on his other projects, including Breaking Dawn, Cancun and Max Steel.
While the script has been floating around Hollywood for a number of years now, the current incarnation sees a brilliant spy discovering a super stretching formula that benefits his professional crime-fighting life at the expense of his personal one.
If it decides to focus on the villains of the toy world, we can expect an evil arch nemesis called Evil X-ray Wretch Armstrong (replete with The Mask-esque face, a see-through body, and a mohawk), a reptilian green nemesis called Kenner and the appearance of Stretch's faithful K9 companion, Fetch Armstrong (who can also stretch).
That may sound preposterously silly but let's face it, fighting a deformed plasticine puppet is still more threatening then any number of wimpy, sparkling emo vampires.
