After The Phantom Menace’s mauling at the hands of critics, fans, and casual viewers looking for escapism, George Lucas upped his game for Episode II. Jar-Jar Binks makes a micro-cameo, midichlorians are gone, and the action/dialogue ratio is improved. A busy story ditches the politics of the first movie, focussing on a teenage Anakin’s wooing of Senator Amidala, Obi-Wan Kenobi’s discovery of a secret clone army, Darth Sidious and Count Dooku’s plot to crush the Republic, and the introduction of Jango Fett (and son Boba).
