Bryan Singer says he's keen on making another X-Men movie. The director, who left the franchise to direct Suprman Returns, has even discussed the possibility of a third sequel with 20th Century Fox.
Bryan Singer is considering making a new X-Men movie, and has even met with production studio 20th Century Fox to discuss it.
Singer directed the first two movies, but left the franchise to make the underwhelming Superman Returns, leaving Brett 'couldn't direct traffic' Ratner to helm the third entry, X-Men: The Last Stand. It took over $240m, but was regarded as inferior to Singer's previous efforts.
"I'm still looking to possibly returning to the 'X-Men' franchise. I've been talking to Fox about it," Singer explained during a Q&A at thePusan International Film Festival in South Korea.
"I love Hugh Jackman. I love the cast."
Singer went on to discuss why he enjoys making the X-Men movies,
saying they allow him to discuss serious issues while dressing the films up as popcorn entertainment.
"(I try to) trick audiences into thinking they're seeing fireworks, but they're learning about themselves and listening to what I have to say."
"The excitement about working in science fiction and fantasy is, the stories - if they are good - are about the human condition,"
Although no longer under contract, most members of the X-Men cast are likely to return should Singer invite them. Hugh Jackman's spin-off, X-Men Origins: Wolverine was successful, but the actor will be acutely aware that the reviews were luke warm at best, while fans would expect to see the hairy one in any further sequels.
Quite how it will fit into Singer's schedule is unknown - the director, who most recently worked on the Tom Cruise war drama, Valkyrie, has announced plans for a new King Arthur movie, provisionally entitled Excalibur, and is linked with directing duties on a new Battlestar Galactica movie.
