The Mexican_01

Hare-brained crime/ road movie with Pitt as a bumbling gangster whose boss just won't let him give in his notice. Great performances from a shrill Roberts and sensitive Gandolfini, too.

Review

Brad Pitt plays Jerry - an ineffectual gangster who's been caught up in dirty business by default and would really rather be somewhere else.

Julia Roberts plays Sam - Jerry's long-suffering girlfriend who also wishes he was somewhere else!

Just as Sam decides to leave Jerry for an easy life in Las Vegas, the bosses call him in for one last job.

This time he's ordered to fly to Mexico and bring back a precious gun, which he must steal from the grandson of a dangerous man...

Jerry's adventures involve thrills, deceit and a mind-boggling curse which was supposedly placed on the gun decades earlier and appears to have returned to haunt its latest owner.

Meanwhile, Sam has been kidnapped by scary but sensitive gay gangster Leroy (Gandolfini) who helps her analyse her failed relationship.

This is high-end Hollywood comedy, a screwball road film whose plot skids through cleverly placed hairpin bends.

Julia turns in a shrieking, jittery performance which sends the hysterical Sam into even further neurosis and hyper-sensitivity.

Brad is just stunning and, although Jerry may not be his most challenging role, he turns in a well-balanced and appealing performance.

The star-powered cast joins forces to create a thrilling and amusing piece of cinema.

Their trademark smiles make the film all the more attractive to movie-loving audiences!
