“Killing me won’t change anything – there’s a thousand bankers ready to take my place”.
No, it’s not a heated exchange between the Financial Services Authority and the Royal Bank of Scotland but the tricksy word of crooked financial whiz-kid Jonas Skarssen (Thomsen).
He’s in charge of a monolithic Luxumbourg-based money-spinning giant heavily involved in a scheme to finance an arms deal in the Middle East with the help of a Berlusconi-type Milanese armaments manufacturer.
However, when the Italian merchant of death takes against the deadly bank’s assassination of a friend he too finds himself a target and is duly despatched by a sniper.
Meanwhile, Interpol loose cannon Louis Salinger (Owen) and American legal eagle Eleanor Whitman (Naomi Watts) realise that if they can find out who the hitman is then they’ve a chance of bringing the rotten bankers down.
