Packing some good shock moments and scary special effects, this horror chiller's let down by silliness both in plot and dialogue. The hidden horrors of the classic '64 version are out in the open here. Statues morph and clutch, and rooms change shape to threaten the invaders of Hill House, there as psychic research subjects for Professor Liam Neeson to conduct a study in fear. And one of the subjects, Nell (Lili Taylor) feels a special affinity with the place, even when things go bump in the night. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Owen Wilson are the others trapped by the house.
