Review

This film's gentle, understated appeal to the emotions will look more at home on the small screen. Deborah Kerr and Madhur Jaffrey play with pleasure as two women whose deep cultural differences are gradually broken down as they work together in the jungle garden Kerr's late husband created at their home in South West England after their many years in Assam. Deborah Kerr's quiet performance strikes exactly the right balance between tenacity and vulnerability.
