Teen Wolf 11

Michael J Fox plays a student whose life improves when he finds himself growling when he's annoyed and starts hearing high-pitched whistles no-one else can. Yes, he's becoming a werewolf albeit a far more cuddly version than those seen in An American Werewolf in London or The Howling. Despite the attractions of a life as a human moggie, the ghoul-in-school faces an uphill struggle as he tries to avoid a lifetime of dodging silver bullets.

Review

It had been a decade or so since we'd had a werewolf comedy, when this simple but effective vehicle for the appropriately named Michael J Fox arrived to surprise us pleasantly as a follow-up (actually shot earlier) to his smash-hit Back to the Future.

He's almost the whole show in this romp, as a college kid who starts growling when annoyed, gets an itchy feeling round the neck and arms and hears high pitched whistles no-one else can.

He goes for advice to his basketball coach (the diminutive Fox playing basketball? Never mind, somehow they make it work).

The coach, however, has only three rules to follow: never miss 12 hours' sleep, never play cards with a man whose first name is a state, and never go near a woman with a dagger tattoo.

Werewolves? No problem. The tail, sorry, tale, climaxes with a very well choreographed basketball game as the ghoul-in-school fights to go straight and avoid a lifetime of biting the mailman and dodging silver bullets.
