Will Smith plays a US inland revenue inspector who doesn't collect much in the way of taxes...but does dole out random acts of kindness to seven total strangers. Mystery surrounds his reasons for selflessly playing the Good Samaritan but when he falls in love with Rosario Dawson's heart patient a life-changing experience of guilt and tragedy are revealed. Smith reteams with The Pursuit of Happyness director Gabriele Muccino to produce a haunting love story and a head-scratching mystery.

Review

We first meet Smith's Ben Thomas making a 9/11 call and calmly informing the frantic operator the suicide he's just reported is going to be his own.

Rewind a couple of months and we run into Ben delighting in a cavalier attitude to his job as a tax inspector and making contact with seven people for totally unfathomable reasons.

Among them is the blind call centre worker who finds himself subjected to Ben's fiery wrath, the abused single mom who can't figure out what the supercharged Samaritan wants and Rosario Dawson's heart disease victim with only months to live unless a donor is found.

He also finds time to give bone marrow to a little lad... but it is his increasing fascination with Dawson's Emily that deflects the soul-searching saviour from his mysterious mission.
