Rising Sun

Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes team up for mystery and action as cops investigating a murder at the Los Angeles HQ of a Japanese corporation. Based on the novel by Michael Crichton, it deftly weaves thrills and spills into a clever plot while confronting the xenophobia that exists between the world's economic superpowers. Smart interplay between the two leads and solid direction from Phillip Kaufman make this much more than your average Friday nighter. Highly recommended.

Review

In spite of its backdrop of Japanese-American business competition in LA, this is really a mystery thriller about a videotape recording of a murder. A high-priced mistress is found strangled on the boardroom table of a Japanese corporation and the only clue to the killer is a missing security tape that has filmed the act. Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes are the cops on the case in a complex, absorbing whodunit. Co-writer Michael Crichton visualised Connery when he wrote the source novel.
