Hollywood was running out of variations for its cycle of buddy action films around this time, but this one has a thread that at least gives a slightly different slant to its parade of icy killers, undercover cops, car chases and violent action set pieces.
The title might suggest it's a modern Western and, indeed, Lou Diamond Phillips' impassive Native American might have ridden straight out of the past as, in pursuit of a stolen sacred spear, he time and again rescues faintly inefficient maverick cop Kiefer Sutherland from his own poor judgment.
You couldn't really give a nickel for the chances of the duo surviving in this world of corruption and instant death, but as usual the killers and their henchmen are bad shots and our heroes make it through to the well-staged climax involving a blazing barn, a handy motorcycle, a cat-and-mouse hunt through woods and, of course, the Final Vengeance of the spear.
Leave your thinking caps in the hall and enjoy.
