Review

This Australian thriller about mind-bending mayhem seems influenced by Brian De Palma's Carrie. Patrick (Robert Thompson) languishes in a coma after killing his mother and her lover, but his psychokinetic powers wreak further havoc when hospital staff start mysteriously dying. Nurse Kathy (Susan Penhaligon) suspects Patrick is masterminding the chaos, but she has her own problems when she becomes the object of his morbid passion. Richard Franklin's taut direction (he went on to make Psycho II) and Penhaligon's sympathetic performance do much to redeem the far-fetched material. But despite some nail-biting moments, there's nothing here to match Carrie's shock ending.
