New Town Killers 6

A pair of loathsome private bankers get their kicks paying penniless chavs to act as prey in a warped hunting game. However, things are to change when they pick on a parentless teenager who lives with his sister on a rough Edinburgh estate. Director Richard Jobson does The Game with Trainspotting energy in a thriller aimed squarely at the multiplexes.

Review

A light sprinkling of bitter social commentary coats this riff on that fail-safe Most Dangerous Game plot (previously done in Battle Royale, The Condemned, Hard Target, and King of the Hill amongst many others).

Pearson is a cheekily likeable as the resourceful Sean, offered a way out of his dead-end life by the slickly repitlian Alistair (Scott, carving off a thick slice of ham).  If Sean can escape the clutches of Alistair and his partner (Mackenzie) for 12 hours, then he’ll win £12,000, enough to rescue his sister from the loan sharks.

But, as the game begins Sean quickly realises the stakes are much higher than money.
