Mission Impossible II

As far as action goes, nobody delivers the goods quite like John Woo. So prepare for death-defying stunts, freestyle gunplay and motorbike jousting as Tom Cruise's never-say-die agent Ethan Hunt returns for another ultra-tricky assignment. Some bright spark has created a deadly virus called Chimera and it's up to Hunt and his crew - with a little help from slinky thief Thandie Newton - to grab it before it falls into the hands of uber-villain Dougray Scott. This message will self-destruct in... ah, you know the drill.

Review

Samples of the genetically created disease Chimera have gone asunder, providing another impossible(ish) case for IMF agent Ethan Hunt (Cruise) to crack. Predictably, a gang of international terrorists - headed by a former IMF agent (Scott) - is also on a mission to capture the bug.

With a notorious thief (Newton) on his side - romantically and professionally - it's just another day at the office for Hunt: defeat the odds, get the girl, save the world.

Cruise performs most of his own stunts with megawatt charisma, Scott enjoys himself as the baddie, and Newton is a mysterious package of seductive charm.

And on the action front, motorcycle chases, gunfights, kick-ass martial arts stunts and a dizzying spell on a cliff-face are just some of eye-popping delights to be savoured in this thoroughly entertaining sequel.
