This highly watchable disaster movie is better than its reputation suggests. A tidal wave, an avalanche and a town's destruction are thrown in to pump up a thin story about a massive meteor headed for Earth that must be deflected by a mix of Russian and American missiles. Sean Connery has some acid lines as the scientist-in-chief who must save the day, Henry Fonda co-stars as the US President but Natalie Wood and Brian Keith (as Russians) walk away with the film. Special effects, with the exception of the avalanche scenes, are acceptably done.
