Big John Wayne has fun in this light-hearted comedy Western that has him and fiery Maureen O'Hara battling over a divorce. Meanwhile, his daughter is being pursued by the son of his cook and the son of one of his worst enemies. To remind us that this is a Western, the feuding is interrupted by Indian raids and there's also one of the biggest and certainly the muddiest brawl ever. Loud and boisterous, this film is great fun even if it isn't a great movie, and contains one of the Duke's mostly fondly remembered stretches of dialogue: 'But I won't hit you. No, I won't hit you. The hell I will! ' (SB)
