John Huston revisits African Queen territory with this wartime drama starring Deborah Kerr and Robert Mitchum as a nun and a US Marine who fall in love while stranded together on a Pacific island during WW2. A perfect two-hander for the stars, with Mitchum flexing his romantic muscles and Kerr keeping up the good habit she got into years earlier for Powell and Pressburger's convent tale Black Narcissus.

Review

In one of director John Huston's best movies, Deborah Kerr plays a nun who meets a tough US Marine (Robert Mitchum, perfectly cast) when they're both shipwrecked and land up on a Pacific island during World War Two. It's virtually a duologue, but with lots of action, adventure and drama as well. Kerr rated this as her own favourite film - and her performance, like Mitchum's, is first-class.
