Max Cady (Robert De Niro) is a maniac with a mission- - to exact his revenge on the lawyer (Nick Nolte) who suppressed evidence that would have saved him from 14 years in jail. Cady traps the daughter (Juliette Lewis), menaces the wife (Jessica Lange) and finally catches up with the whole family on a houseboat in a storm. Martin Scorsese crams his stonking remake of the 1962 thriller with great shocks, De Niro is unimagiinably evil and there are amusing cameos by stars from the original -- Robert Mitchum, Gregory Peck and Martin Balsam.
