Keanu Reeves isn't returning to Speed. According to Hollywood rumour, Fox are planning on another Speed movie - and the script doing the rounds has Keanu Reeves' character back in the driving seat. But the star says he won't be in it.
In case you've forgotten all about Speed and it's woeful sequel, Speed 2: Cruise Control, let us jog your memories.
The original was directed by former cinematographer Jan De Bont, and featured Reeves as an LA cop who finds himself on board a bus that has a bomb set to explode should said bus travel below 50 miles per hour.
The movie shot Reeves into the leading man stratosphere, but he was too canny to make the same mistake as De bont and co-star Sandra Bullock, and flatly refused to sign up to the sequel having read the script.
That movie saw Bullock, and Reeves' replacement Jason Patric, in an identical situation - except this time on a boat. Willem Defoe hammed it up as the bad guy, in a movie that lacked any of the original's zest or sheer exhilieration.
As Reeves recently put it, "boats really don't go that fast."
If Fox can produce a third movie that has any of the original's quality, we're all for this. But if the runaway vehicle is boat, moped, train (think Under Siege 2) or milk float, then count us out.
