Watchmen - GhostsOne of the new images from WatchmenNew pictures for Zack Snyder's Watchmen have appeared online.

The images include seven new posters for the movie, which is currently one of the most eagerly anticipated movies of 2009.

While images of most big-budget flicks are hard to come by this early in the production (the film is due for release in March), Warner Bros. have not been shy in showing off Watchmen, which has helped create an ever-growing fanbase who have widely approved of the direction Snyder is taking the movie.

That said, rumours of a change to the ending (the story is taken directly from the graphic novel) led to uproar from the hardcore fans, although those rumours have been stymied by claims that there are a selection of endings being shot, with the Snyder yet to decide how the movie will end.

Watchmen started out as a 12-part comic book written by Alan Moore (V For Vendetta, League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen), and was released over 1986 and 1987. The story is set in a fictional 1985, with the Americans and Russians on the brink of nuclear war.

Bucking the trend of most comic book heroes, this is a much darker tale than even the Dark Knight stories, with superheroes being bumped off and innocent people facing certain doom.
