Story: The Mayan calendar kinda runs out in 2012, which implies the world is about to end. Not one to miss a world-ending trick, Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow) uses this as the basis for another effects-driven spectacle.
It's not clear how the cast deal with the onset of doom, but we're sure Emmerich will concentrate on the inter-personal storylines with his usual degree of attention.
