Judge DreddJudge Dredd is back and in 3D.Rumours of a Judge Dredd reboot have been floating around for the last few years.

But now a director, writer and 3D angle have finally been confirmed, and those involved may just surprise you.

Deadline has reported that the movie is being optioned at this year's Cannes festival, with The Beach novelist Alex Garland (respectable) and Vantage Point director Pete Travis (who at least flirts with potential) attached to the project in a desperate bid to erase woeful, scarring memories of 1995's Sylvester Stallone effort.

DNA Films are in charge of the project, although with a mooted budget of below $50 million we're not holding our breath that they'll convincingly manage to bring Dredd's Mega City to over-sized gun-blasting fruition.

The long-running 2000AD comic strip follows the violent escapades of law enforcement officer Judge Dredd, who lives in a future city whereby uniformed Judges combine the powers of police, judge, jury and executioner.

Do you think Dredd got a bum deal with Stallone's outing? Or is it a franchise better left sentenced to death? Let us know on our Facebook page and Twitter stream.
