BEST DIRECTOR: DANNY BOYLE FOR SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE
First time lucky for Danny Boyle, who won the Best Director Golden Globe on his first nomination for Bollywood Slumdog Millionaire.
One of the UK's most respected and established directors, Boyle revitalised British cinema in the mid-90s with Trainspotting, a film that proved we could do a movie as kinetic, visual and exciting as Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas.
Since this movie (which followed the wonderful debut Shallow Grave) Boyle has tackled zombie horror (28 Days Later), romcom (A Life Less Ordinary), sci-fi (Sunshine), and kids comedy (Millions) amongst others, refusing to pinned down to one drama.
But, what the director does is infuse each film with a whizz bang for the eyes and the head, meaning ach new Danny Boyle film is must-see entertainment.
