BEST ACTRESS (DRAMA): KATE WINSLET IN REVOLUTIONARY ROAD

The 66th Golden Globe Awards will be a particular favourite of Kate Winslet's, who won both Best Supporting Actress for The Reader and Best Actress for Revolutionary Road.

In a tearful acceptance speech, she still found people to thank after a gushing speech for Best Supporting Actress.

One of the night's best moments came when she thanked her fellow nominees and referred to Angelina Jolie as "the other one".  She also thanked her co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, saying, "Leo, I'm so glad I can stand here and tell you how much I love you."

Revolutionary Road is in some ways the culmination of brilliant, tormented and driven women, that began with Heavenly Creatures and continued through Hideous Kinky, Jude, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.  Who remembers such mis-steps as The Holiday when she's given so many memorable performances.

Stuttering at the microphone, a visibly shaken Hawkins – whose early appearances included the comedy Little Britain – landed the best actress award for a performance in a Comedy or Musical.

“This film was about love,” added Hawkins, whose other film roles have included Vera Drake, Layer Cake, The Painted Veil and Cassandra’s Dream.

In Happy-Go-Lucky she plays Poppy, a sunny primary school teacher who finds herself up against Eddie Marsan’s racist, homophobic driving instructor.
