AkiraThe original animated AkiraBritish actors Andrew Garfield and Robert Pattinson are rumoured to be on a shortlist to star
in the long-awaited live action adaptation of hit Japanese manga Akira.

The movie, which has been in development for some time, is gathering pace after a recent redraft of
the script by Harry Potter veteran Steve Kloves.

So impressed were Warner Bros by Kloves' script that they've started to court potential leads and
are rumoured to have sent scripts to hot British actors Andrew Garfield, Robert Pattinson and James
McAvoy.

The homegrown triumvirate are apparently being considered for the role of Tetsuo, whilst
Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), Chris Pine (Star Trek),
Justin Timberlake (The Social Network) and Joaquin Phoenix are being touted for the role of fellow
protagonist Kaneda.

Akira was first adapted for the screen in 1988, but Warner Bros are keen to produce a live action
version of Katsuhiro Otomo’s wildly popular graphic novel after paying a seven figure sum for the
movie rights more than two years ago.

Should the studio get their men, shooting is set to start as early as August on the project which is
expected to be spread across two films, each tackling three instalments of the six volume series.
