Like fine wine, Jackie Brown improves with age. When first released in 1998 it was met with critical approval, but box office indifference by an audience hungry for more Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction pizzaz. The leisurely pace, maturity, and the fact that this was the first time (to date in 2009 last) Tarantino had made a movie set in a recognisable real world.
