The model and step-daughter of film director Brian De Palma first caused a stir with her appearance in the indie hit Garden State.
She was first spotted by Steven Spielberg who told her step-dad De Palma that she ought to be in front of the camera.
He took her to a talent agency when she was just seven and she was subsequently one of the top child models in America in campaigns for Guess, Gap, Abercombie & Fitch and Ralph Lauren.
She made her big screen debut aged ten in the Hitchcock-style thriller Ordinary Madness and after doing voicework for the Scarface video game, she had a recurring role in American TV's the OC.
She played April in Garden State before starring in Michael Winterbottom's eerie thriller Genova as Colin Firth's daughter.
