The 2009 Friday the 13th remake is the twelfth official Jason movie.  For those who can't tell their New Beginning from their New Blood, read on for the full Friday rundown - scream by scream.

Friday the 13th - 1980 05Friday the 13th

The gory story:
A group of teens meet bloody ends in the soon to be reopened Camp Crystal Lake.  They manage to squeeze in some romantic fumblings and hi-jinks before hand. The motivation for the killings is rooted in some wrong commited long ago. Jason Vorhees is not the killer.

The bloody remains:  Sean S. Cunningham liked the look of Halloween's box office returns and ripped off the basic premise wholesale.  In the process he solidified the rules of the slasher movie, and established Tom Savini and the go-to make-up man for grungy slasher mayhem. Proved his business savvy by selling the distribution rights to Paramount.  Kevin Bacon plays a horny camp counsellor.

Best
Death:   Bacon, basking in a post-coitus glow, gets an arrowhead through the throat.

Friday the 13th Part II 08Friday the 13th Part 2

The gory story:  Five years after the original, at Packanack Lodge, near the infamous Camp Crystal Lake, multiple murders bring havoc to a Counsellor Training Centre. With the murderer from the original movie dead, who can be behind these new slayings? Three guesses…

The bloody remains:  The first movie with Jason Vorhees as the killer, minus the trademark hockey mask.  In the States the MPAA demanded 48 seconds of trims before giving the film an “R” rather than “X” rating.  Critics have noted the film is a loose remake of Italian director Mario Bava’s Bay of Blood.

Best Death:  Without a doubt the double impalement of a couple making “the beast”, the male victim’s shock and surprise at first being mistaken for pleasure.  Heh heh.

Friday the 13th Part III 05Friday the 13th Part 3

The gory story
:  Pretty teenage girl Chris takes her friends to her family’s summer house in the woods.  A childhood trauma at the house means this is the first time Chris has returned.  Not only does everyone have to contend with the unstoppable Jason but also a trio of mean and moody bikers, revving up for trouble.

The bloody remains: Notable for the first movie in which Jason dons the hockey mask and for originally
being shot in 3-D. The film’s events occur the day after Part 2, meaning Saturday the 14th and Sunday the 15th would have been a more appropriate title.

Best death: The cleverer than it first appears 3-D harpoon fired into a hapless victim’s eye.

Friday the 13th Part IV 01Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter

The gory story:  Jason is taken to a hospital and declared DOA following the climax of Part 3.  Upon awakening he kills two hospital employees and returns to Crystal Lake. A single mum and her two kids Tommy and Trish are staying in a summer cottage, joined next door by a bunch of teens. They are all joined by the hunky Rob, the brother of one of Jason’s victims, who is gunning for the unstoppable psycho.

The bloody remains:  Billed as The Final Chapter because Paramount shareholders grumbled that the studio was resting on this horror series. Friday the 13th’s original make-up man Tom Savini returned to kill off Jason is suitably grisly style.  Pre-fame Corey Feldman and Crispin Glover are amongst the cast.  Fittingly for what was intended as the final instalment, the movie has a bodycount of 13.

Best Death:  Jason’s obviously, facially impaled on his own machete and sliding down the blade.

Friday the 13th Part V 04Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning

The gory story:  Scarred by his mother’s death at the hands of Jason, Tommy Jarvis resides in a halfway house mental institution.  But, he is plagued by images of Jason, not helped by the fact that a spate of murders begin in the halfway house with Jason’s MO.  Did Tommy really kill the hockey-masked maniac?

The bloody remains: The producers wanted Feldman back, but he was busy on the The Goonies so only cameos in the opening scene.  Spoiler alert: only the second film in the series where Jason isn’t the killer.

Best Death:  Probably the woman get a cleaver to the head then drowning in her stew.
