The Coens hit the big time with this deliciously twisted tale of a man (William H. Macy) who has his wife kidnapped in order to extort money from his rich but tight-fisted father-in-law. Steve Buscemi's slimy criminal takes all the best lines, while Frances McDormand - aka Mrs Joel Coen - is on Oscar-winning form as the friendly cop who won't let the case lie. Peter Stormare co-stars.
