Quantum Of Solace 40Bond vaults over the competition007 is licenced to kill, thrill and also print money if Quantum of Solace's three day tally is anything to go by - Despite only being released in three countries, Bond took $38.6m and predictably the superspy performed best in Blighty - double-0 heaven to the filmmakers' ears.

Opening on Friday 31st October in the UK, France and Sweden, Quantum of Solace's three day take stands at $25.3m (£15.3m), which crucially is better than Casino Royale's opening bow of $21.8m (and that included Thursday previews), and above predictions of $21m.

Casino Royale went on to become the highest grossing film at the UK box office in 2006. However Quantum of Solace's stellar performance has already seen it rocket to number 10 spot in the 2008 UK box office list.

Despite mixed reviews, this demonstrates that Bond can hold his own in a world of Bourne and Batman, and that the public's taste (in the UK at least) for 007 remains as strong as ever.

It also proves that Daniel Craig was no one hit wonder and that his stunning debut in Casino Royale was the beginning of hopefully a lengthy career on her Majesty's secret service - rumours that Quantum of Solace is the middle part of a trilogy have been quashed by the actor.

Quantum of Solace is due to open in the US on 14th November.
