•  Writer Ian Fleming named James Bond,after an American ornithologist, a Caribbean bird expert who wrote the definitive field guide book Birds of the West Indies.
   
• As a struggling actor with the National Youth Theatre, Daniel Craig worked in the restaurant kitchens and as a waiter.
   
• Goldeneye is the nickname of Fleming's beachfront house in Jamaica where he wrote the Bond novels and short stories between 1952 and 1964.
   
• Former Bond Timothy Dalton is a keen fisherman who also supports Derby County Football Club.
   
• All scenes showing Roger Moore running in his seven Bond movies were performed by doubles, since the actor felt he looked awkward.
   
• Daniel Craig is the first actor to play James Bond who is younger than the series itself.

• In Casino Royale, director Martin Campbell has a cameo as the truck driver murdered by a terrorist at Miami Airport.
   
• Desmond Llewelyn’s seventeen performances as Q remains the most times a single actor has played the same role in major motion picture history. 
   
• The acronym of Blofeld’s villainous organisation SPECTRE stands for SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, Extortion.
   
•  Fleming originally conceived 007 as “an anonymous, blunt instrument wielded by a government department.”
   
• One-time-only Bond actor George Lazenby was supposed to have dinner with martial arts star Bruce Lee on the night that he died. 
   
• Fleming emphasised Bond's Scottish heritage in admiration of Sean Connery's cinematic portrayal from Dr No onwards.
   
• Thunderball was originally going to be the first James Bond movie, but legal wrangles with its co-author led to Dr No being chosen instead.
